Whilton Marina

Background
In my student days, Dad had a boat which he sometimes moored at Whilton Marina on the Grand Union Canal in Northamptonshire. Their logo was predictable and instantly forgettable. I can't even remember it but I knew it was a wasted opportunity. So I thought I'd approach them with an idea I'd had.

Brief
Speculative. Design a logo.

Solution
'W' with an 'M' reflected beneath in rippling water.

Result
Rejected. They much preferred their existing crappy item.

Drinkwise

Background
The Health Education Authority initiated a campaign to create awareness of alcohol units and sensible drinking levels. The campaign launched with a 'Drinkwise Day', thus creating an opportunity for national media to focus on various alcohol-related issues.

Brief
Design a broadsheet poster to launch 'Drinkwise Day'.

Solution
Mainly typographic. Headline: Say when. Subhead: Drinkwise Day - Tuesday 30th June. Cartoon pink(ish) elephant logo at bottom with strapline: Drinkwise. Never forget there is a limit.

Robinson's

Background
Wimbledon tennis, mid '90s. Tim Henman was at his peak and being sponsored by Robinson's, the soft drinks brand that has long been associated with Wimbledon.

Brief
Produce a double page ad in The Grocer magazine featuring their extensive range of soft drinks and alerting the trade to the huge sales opportunity of sponsoring the golden boy of British tennis.

Solution

Result
Ad rejected due to not being product-focused enough. Instead, they ran with another one I did which had the headline 'It always reigns at Wimbledon' above a big product range photo. Very little mention of Henman though.
